Modernist / Expressionist Reflections in Georgian Literary Space

Abstract

Traces of originality were always present in Georgian avant-gardism, as in scientific analytics innovative are counted those expressions, in which individualism and history of culture somewhat insures it from compilation and defines its peculiarities. Therefore, associations or parallel images of Georgian modernism must be searched for in Europe. These ties were not systematic and sometimes, based on personal contacts. It is more the history of literature relations rather than the process of identity of viewpoints or sharing of theoretical positions. Content analysis of these discourses logically gets to the installation and systematization of avant-gardist trends in Georgian context. Theoretical analysis of Georgian modernism shows that it can be considered as an artistic-creative method i.e. method literature, which, unlike European method, has never been politicized and has never claimed to change public-living values. It can be said that modernism found rich experience of Georgian writing tradition, mentality and creative thinking and all the maximalism, radicalism, categorical thinking, orthodoxality changed and became of national-liberal character, not just as worldview, but also as creative method. Hence, we analyze the issue of introduction of expressionist literature in Georgian creative space, which appeared in 1920’s, in parallel with existing avant-gardist directions; in literary studies of the last century it is perceived as creative trend and “event of one writer,” while this claim needs reconsideration; because, expressionism in Georgian literature has clearly distinguished artistic-methodological format, intercultural tendency along with distinct individual-national features, detected in the woks of last century Georgian writers.
