Communication Apprehension and Birth Order : A Study of MA Students Majoring in English

Abstract

This study investigates communication apprehension when using English (CA in L2) of first-year students majoring in English in a public university in Bangkok, Thailand. Research results reveal that the different order of being a child in the family affects their habits differently in dimensions of Public Speaking. We note that differences in age and GPA do not affect their communication apprehension (CA) differently. Based on the research results, faculty members of the MA program may gain an insight into how their students’ demographic differences affect their students’ communication apprehension when using the English language. Hence, the faculty members can design the courses of the English language more appropriately and use more appropriate approach when teaching these students. Eventually, it can be hoped that students can enjoy learning English courses more at the program with effective results.
