Partnerships Arts Integration as Positive School Culture Intervention: A Community Approach to Arts Integration

Abstract

While much has been written about arts in the curriculum, arts integration theory, the benefits of visual art in the curriculum, research literature is limited regarding arts integration and school culture. This study examines the successful integration of the arts in several school districts within a single California county, taking into consideration the culture of the stakeholders and multiple contextual factors, such as funding, the sequence, and timing of integration phases. William Charland’s 2011 research on “Art Integration as a School Culture Change: A Cultural Ecosystem to Faculty Development” is employed as a framework to examine the project.
