Abstract

A lot has been done to improve the work in philosophy in Latin America, especially from the sixties, but it still remains in an “invisibility” status, as stated by Pereda 2006, not only before the mainstream philosophy, but also before the people interested in philosophy in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. I have talked about this phenomenon in a World Philosophy Congress (Bobenrieth 2013), were I have highlighted that is very strange that in such a globalized world philosophy is very little “globalized”; the “mainstream” places of philosophy remain the same. My main claim in this study is: what is needed is that people working in philosophy in Ibero-American countries, comment in writing the philosophical work made in this cultural area(s). I promote a measure to be taken in some of the main academic events held in these countries, which basically is to ask in the ‘call for papers’ that some references to philosophical authors linked with Latin America, Spain and/or Portugal should be included. I guess that it will have a non-negligible impact, but I am open to discuss other options, so I hope that this Congress will be a very adequate opportunity for doing so, because this is a set of problems shared with other areas of «peripheral» work in philosophy, and in general in Humanities. The aim is not to defend some sort of «regional philosophies», yet to defend philosophy in general, made in any place and time, as a deep self-reflective practice of human reality.
