Political Science and International Relations: International Migration and European-African Relations

Abstract

The cooperation between the European Union and African countries to counter immigration has become the top of the relations between the two parties, and after EU countries failed to stem the flow of unwanted migrants, they sought to cooperate with countries of origin. For this, they concluded a series of cooperation and partnership agreements in the fields of security and development, focused on the security aspect, especially after the events of 2011. Those events that took place the European interior of bombings and serious security breaches due to security disturbances and the spread of violence in recent years in some countries of the northern Mediterranean, considering that the Maghreb countries are the southern bloc of European security and an extension of it. Migration, especially illegal immigration, has been linked to terrorism. On this basis, EU countries provided technical and financial support to the countries of origin of migration and transit countries, through monitoring projects on the borders of the land, sea, air, the fight against smugglers. This study considers three main areas taking into consideration the analysis of the status of the phenomenon of migration and the stakes it poses on European-African relations; as illustrated in the following approaches: 1- The emergence of migration phenomenon in European-African relations. 2- The bets of illegal migration in European-African relations. 3- Insertion issue of migration within the framework of the Euro-African development and cooperation policy.
