Mariana Amatullo joined The New School in 20017 as full-time faculty in the School of Design Strategies (SDS) at Parsons School of Design. In addition to her teaching in SDS where she is also part of the core faculty of the university's Graduate Minor in Civic Service Design, she serves as Vice Provost for Global Strategic Design Initiatives at The New School since July 2019. In this transversal role, she acts as senior academic leader liaising in the Provost office with Executive Deans, School Deans, Faculty and program staff across the university with three university divisions charged with expansion/innovation initiatives: Global Partnerships; Corporate Partnerships, Industry Engagement and Executive Education, and Open Campus (the online and continuing education division of the university). Since November 2019 she has been appointed to oversee the Distributed Education team in Open Campus and the GEMS Program (Global Executive Masters Program); in this leadership role she is in charge of helping provide the academic direction for all new online degrees and certificates at the university. She also partners with the division of Curriculum and Learning in the Provost Office to develop curricular and/or institutional collaborations, support the implementation of university-wide strategy and coordinate substantive academic partnership efforts, participating in the evaluation of new degree proposals and in the strategic review of domestic and international articulation agreements. Prior to joining The New School, Mariana Amatullo co-founded and led the award-winning social innovation department, Designmatters at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California starting in 2001. Mariana brings almost two decades of expertise conceiving, fundraising for and managing a portfolio of international and national educational projects, research initiatives and publications at the intersection of design, design management and social innovation. Mariana lectures internationally about design and social innovation and serves on a variety of executive and advisory boards in design and the arts. She was elected President of Cumulus, the international association of colleges and universities of design, art and media in June 2019 after serving two consecutive terms of service as a Cumulus board member starting in 2013.
