Seeds of Leadership : A Grass and Roots Perspective on Corn, Clarity, and Crisis

Abstract

As a leader in the global corn market, the United States plays a pivotal role in the negotiation of global business, environment, individual wellness, and social relationships among people and organizations with respect to this ancient grain. Considering the breadth of organizations and organisms that corn influences in the industrialized world both implicitly and explicitly and the historical significance of the relationship between people and corn, the opportunity to embrace new narratives and approaches to life through the teachings inherent in human interactions with Zea mays currently represents a crucial pivot point for technological, social, and even spiritual wisdom in the western hemisphere. In a thorough investigation of respective tensions that have influenced current relationships and understandings of corn in the industrialized world, I seek to clarify how this particular story of man and corn holds great inherent wisdom pertaining to the highlights and pitfalls of mainstream perspectives on leadership.
