Soft Power in Contemporary Times

Abstract

We live in an increasingly dangerous world. The kind of weapons which are at the disposal of nation-states today make wars increasingly dangerous and costly. In today’s world there are no winners in any war, there are only losers. Hence, it is essential that we search for other options to empower ourselves as states and resolve our conflicts in a manner which enhances our security. It is against this backdrop, that the utility of soft power in contemporary times becomes even more important. This paper looks at the way India has employed its soft power in the present times realizing that the race for more and better weapons is a zero-sum game. It is a example worth emulating for other emerging powers.
