International Human Trafficking and a Global Fight Against Trafficking

Abstract

This paper examines the global fight against human trafficking. Why has international human trafficking continued despite efforts by the international community? International human trafficking continues to excel because of the huge financial benefits by the traffickers. The research was anchored on the secondary methods of data gathering, which includes newspaper publications, articles, journals, books, internet sources, etc. The major findings of this research reveal that there is not much practical collaboration in the international community to fight against human trafficking. Furthermore, the findings shows that the major step that was taken under the auspices of the United Nations to address the issue of human trafficking was the adoption of the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress, and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, supplementing the Convention against Trans-national organized crime signed in Palermo Italy in 2000, which has not been ratified by many countries. It was discovered that the poor ravaged countries of the South are mostly affected by this menace of human trafficking, often as a result of trying to move to the developed North for better opportunities. The conclusion of this paper is that the need for the international community to step-up the fight against human trafficking is expedient. If not, the implication is disastrous.
