Terrorism in Kashmir: A Prospective Global Concern

Abstract

The ongoing dispute over the region of Kashmir between Pakistan and India is raising more security issues as time passes by, making the international community pay more attention to its problems. In the current world where terrorism is spreading and instabilities are rising, it is important to know how to prevent and deal with such a substantial issue. Our paper aims to show the novelty of terrorism issue in the region and provide potential policies that would, at least in the short-term, help in stabilizing the situation in Kashmir and help prevent local and international terrorist groups gaining power through various means of support and access to resources in the territory. Taking into account the specifics of ethnic and religious aspects in Kashmir and the growing danger of terrorist involvement in the region, we believe that the presence of an international organization (such as the UN) as a third party, intervening in order to keep peace in the region and spread awareness to the public of the dangers of terrorist organizations is necessary and could help in controlling the rising issue. Additionally, having a free economic zone and educating the domestic population of Kashmir shall help to improve the daily lives of the Kashmiri people making them more aware of the motives of domestic and foreign terrorist organizations.
