The Arab Spring and the Globalization Social Movements: Assessing the Tunisian Model of Revolution and the Challenges of Democracy

Abstract

There is no doubt that what is called “The Arab Spring” is a global historical event whose strategic implications exceed the limits of the Arab World and represents in many ways a new geopolitical and social global deal at the beginning of the twenty-first century. With regards to these historical revolutions that ended decades of autocratic and repressive regimes, the Arab world is at a crossroads. This research provides a new academic approach to the major historical events of the Arab Spring through the assessment of the new challenges to the democratic transition in Tunisia. This research project as a specific case study will proceed to an objective evaluation of the Tunisian Model of Revolution and challenges of democracy in North Africa with regards to the global context prevailing in the Arab region. The objectives of this paper proposal are to shed some light, provide elements of analysis and reflection on the advent of revolutions in the Arab world. Our purpose is also to question the current process of political uprisings in the context of the challenges Arab societies are facing nowadays. .
