The Boulevard Never Ends: Creating a Global Lowriding Diaspora Via Social Media

Abstract

The origins of lowriding culture are rooted in the Mexican-American communities of the Southwestern United States during the 1940s. Since then, the culture has evolved in the United States, and it is now diffused throughout the world. The result is a lowriding diaspora that is largely negotiated through the Internet and social media outlets, primarily Instagram. This paper maps the creation and growth of global lowriding from “ground zero”, the Mexican-American barrio, and the diasporic trajectories worldwide.
