Gender Violence: Program of Intervention and Empowerment for Women Victims

Abstract

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a complex phenomenon, which is associated with adverse consequences in the lives of victims, the lack of structured and validated interventions and the absence of specific instruments. Therefore, it is essential to study the phenomenon in order to develop instruments and tools. The present investigation assesses the profile and needs of women victims of GBV in Portugal to develop and validate the effectiveness of an intervention and empowerment program for women victims of GBV; and promote the improvement of biopsychosocial condition and quality of life of the women assisted. To this end, an RSL, a qualitative and a quantitative study is carried out, and a questionnaire on traumatic events associated with GBV is created and validated. Finally, an intervention program is evaluated through a quasi-experimental study, comparing three groups.
