Attentive Learning and the Inculcation of Knowledge Regarding Ethics and Sustainability in Cross-cultural Settings

Abstract

The contemporary global business reality contains both almost immeasurable possibilities for both the advancement of society as well as its demise. Business people – and particularly those leading large business enterprises – have a momentous impact on how many of these matters may play out in the upcoming years. A recent study showed that 75% of the richest entities in the world by revenue are corporations – not countries. The ethical timbre of business-people and the organizations and the factors they take into account when making decisions will have far-reaching ecological, economic, political and social consequences for every one of us. In light of all of the above, there is a clear and pressing need to understand both today’s students and tomorrow’s business leaders view the ethics of business and the role of the corporation in society and. This study presents the results of workshops utilizing the Attentive Learning approach to help inculcate knowledge about and sensitivity toward matters related to Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, with an emphasis on sustainability. Alongside presenting the results of the above workshops, the study examines the potential advantages of the Attentive Learning method, in general, in light of the educational preferences of current students in academia, and particularly when addressing potential cultural and social differences among them.
