Democracy and Its Effects on Human Rights

Abstract

The term democracy is very well known to all of us. It is an old concept in politics. In this system, all people have equal rights, that is why some people say that democracy is a particular good type of government. Human rights play very much same role in ethics once played by natural rights. Human rights are conceived more broadly to include positive social and economic rights, such as the right to social security or to an adequate standard of living. In a particular state there are many internal as well as external problems. The actual democracy is not possible when the people are unequal in different angles of a particular state. Consequently, the human rights cannot be successful until and unless establishing the actual democracy. In this context, Marxists opinion is that the root of our social sufferings lies in our social system, and the social revolution led by the proletariat will bring us into a better world- to a social system, which will ultimately mature into a classless society. Karl Popper is one of those very few twentieth century philosophers who have given us an alternative to overcome the problems of democracy. He tries to explain where the actual problem is in politics. In this paper I consider how democracy is formed and how human rights are represented.
