Multi-Units in Social Service Settings and Their Performance in Seoul, South Korea

Abstract

The purpose of this study to investigate if multi-units (chain-affiliated) social service organizations have better performance comparing to solo unit organization. This study analyzed 83 community-based multiple social service centers in Seoul. Data has been constructed with information from Seoul Government’s Social Service Provider Evaluation and membership report of National Social Service Provider Association, etc. Multiple regression analysis was used. One of the major findings indicate that providers belonging to entity running more than two units do not show any significant difference in performance in social welfare center management area when comparing to that of a solo provider. This study raises a question about the growth of multi-units social service organizations, which may not be helpful to improve social service settings.
