Migration and Human Development: Implications of Governmental Policies

Abstract

Legal migrants are well received in Europe and North America, especially in Canada. Measures are still in place to protect their rights and facilitate their inclusion and integration into the host society. In recent years with the rise in the number of refugees all over the world (e.g. - Syria, Mynmar), governmental authorities in the host countries are coterminous to assume their moral responsibility to welcome these vulnerable people. However, this has a significant impact on public opinion and government policies in host countries. Thus, the main objective of this study is to carry out a comparative study to understand the extent of integration of refugees into the host society in three different countries: Indonesia, Canada, and Italy. Among other things, the implications of refugees for internal migration policies in the three countries are assessed. A speech analysis of the specialized government authorities with QDAminer software allows us to explore our questions.
