Climate Migration: A Multidimensional Approach to Human Security

Abstract

Climate change has emerged as one of the most critical challenges of the XXI century, disrupting ecosystemic, meteorological and, of course, human dynamics. For the social sciences, it is of vital importance to understand the impacts of climate change on people, especially under the phenomenon of vulnerability to human security that it can generate. This study explores the link between the phenomenon of climate migration and human security in the context of the new global era. First, it analyzes the human vulnerability factors that drive these migrations, which makes it possible to examine the economic and social implications of climate migrations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Then it highlights the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach combining scientific research, global policy, and international cooperation to address this complex challenge. Finally, it argues that it is necessary to create an effective response to climate migration based on adaptation and mitigation measures capable of maintaining a humanitarian approach that guarantees the safety and dignity of the displaced population. The paper concludes by stressing the urgency of developing coordinated global strategies and policies to protect human security in one of the most vulnerable regions.
