Abstract
Food waste is one of the problems that Rwanda is facing, with a considerable increase in recent years. This food waste is more recurrent in households and the whole food chain. Previous studies have shown solutions to reduce food waste, such as composting systems and prevention. For this purpose, a literature review on the food waste situation in Kigali was conducted, innovative and feasible solutions were reviewed, and specific criteria for effective food waste reduction systems were determined. The use of 20 (to be changed) literature reviews between 2012 and 2022 are analysed and studied to support this paper. Because of the expectations, different solutions can be implemented in Kigali with sometimes minor constraints.
