Air Quality and Land Use Relation - the Oshodi, Lagos State Environmental Exposition: Anthropogenic Activities on Air Ambience and Pollution

Abstract

Air is the largest substance on planet earth (though invisible). It occupies every nook and cranny of the planet. The atmosphere is a complex, dynamic natural mixture of gasses (air) that is essential to life on earth. The gaseous aerosol materials are not considered to be normal constituents e.g. particulate matters, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxygen etc. This paper considers the relationship between air quality and land use in Oshodi area of Lagos state. Air samples were collected at five different points at the study area twice daily for two days. The data generated subjected to statistical analysis, the results shows that only Nox and So2 concentrations for day 1 peak period rose above the WHO stipulated standards, other measured parameters for day 1 peak and off peak, as well as peak and off peak for all parameters for day 2 showed no significant difference in relation to WHO standard. Based on this study, it can be concluded that Oshodi Land Use has no negative impact on air quality, relatively.
