Abstract
Agriculture contributes to climate change by releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This study examines the literature on both topics to evaluate empirically what influences carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. The World Bank’s Green Data Book provides information on 120 nations’ national level variables linked to agriculture, energy use, and carbon emissions. Agricultural land, irrigation, forest area, biomass energy, and energy use efficiency all had a negative impact on carbon dioxide emissions, according to a multiple linear regression analysis. However, it is positively impacted by per capita energy use and fertiliser use. The analysis supports the idea that people in wealthy nations are more accountable for carbon emissions than people in developing nations. It urges cross-subsidization of low-input agriculture, especially organic farming in developing nations.
