Abstract
The vulnerability of the Nigerian agricultural sector to climate variability is of particular interest to farmers and policy makers, because agriculture is a key sector in the economy. The study was carried out to examine the effect of climate variables on the output of cassava enterprise in Oyo State. Secondary data were collected from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and Oyo State Agricultural Development Program (OYSADEP); they were analysed using trend, co-integration and multiple regression analyses. The trend analyses showed that cassava production traced out an upward linear trend while annual rainfall and temperature over the period were unstable. The study suggested the adoption of appropriate and proactive adaptation measures such as drought tolerant/resistant varieties, adoption of sustainable land management practices and intensification of campaigns to promote healthy environmental practices among citizens.
