Environmental Considerations in Israel's Developing Public Transportation: Creating a Bridge between Regulations, Politics, and Desires

Abstract

As Israel continues to grow, the public transportation network, such as train and bus tracks, grows as well. But while planning and construction are being supported by different stakeholders and promoted by politicians, the environment is seemed to be somewhat neglected. In a small country such as Israel, where there is not much nature to preserve, it is important to balance between the need for infrastructure development and sustaining green areas for the health and mental health benefit of the residents in the big metropolitan areas. This paper presents the environmental perspective of a large metropolitan infrastructure construction project.
