Technology Blending: An Innovative Mechanism for Sustainable Housing Delivery in Developing Countries

Abstract

Some of the most important sustainable development challenges that confront the world today also have local significance, such as resource depletion, protection of biodiversity, protection of community’s heritage, environmental issues, and housing poverty. This paper aimed to identify best-practice approaches to attain production efficiency, cost efficiency, community coherence and sustainability in housing delivery in Ghana. Adopting a qualitative literature review, it emerged that adopting a multifaceted approach is necessary to attain production efficiency, cost efficiency, community coherence and sustainability in housing delivery in Ghana. The recommended best-practices approach that combines sustainable development objectives, thus green building practices, international standard organization (ISO) 14000 standards certification, and environmental management system (EMS) implementation is well suited to the needs of the housing industry in Ghana.
