Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation Activity Measures of Navotas City about Its Good Governance: Basis for a Proposed e-Advocacy Campaign

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the respondents’ level of awareness in the implementation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management of Navotas City. Descriptive survey method with the use of validated questionnaires and guide questions duly accomplished by the respondents was used. A total of 243 out of 253 respondents participated to the survey who were divided into 3 groups: 1.) Officials 2.) Staff and 3.) Volunteer workers. Analyses were drawn from the results of the interviews and based on the responses gathered through populated questionnaires. The findings of this study revealed that respondents’ years of service to DRRM ranges from 1 to 3 years and whose job positions proved the challenges faced by the CDRMMO on personnel due to lack of employment opportunity to retain institutionally competent employees who will provide continuity on the delivery of effective and efficient DRRM of the city. The city may have enough funding but cannot be used in a pro-active measures which can be allotted to trainings of the city responders to equip them of the necessary skills and to ensure increased respondents’ awareness on DRRM strategies. Generally, results on Disaster has an over-all mean of 3.72 and Mitigation Activity Measures has an over-all mean of 3.76 both verbally interpreted as “AWARE” on the importance of the said areas in the DRRM cycle.
