Abstract
Human society, best represented by climate change, desertification, water shortages, and ecosystem destruction, is approaching the “planetary boundaries” and there has thus been widely shared perception that the current development model that destroys the environment in which humanity coexists can no longer be sustained. In this regard, sustainable development has become a buzzword of the UN’s vision for the world since 2015. Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change, including the shift in precipitation patterns, the rise of temperature and the frequency of weather extremes, etc. This study evaluates the current climate policies in the region and their major impacts. Subsequently, I explore major challenges and opportunities of such climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean.
