Virtual Registration

To register for a virtual registration you must have an accepted proposal for a virtual lightning talk or a virtual poster session. This registration type is reserved for those who cannot attend the conference in person but who would still like to participate. A virtual registration includes citation and summary of work in the printed conference program and online post-conference program, access to other virtual content from the conference, an opportunity to submit an article for consideration to the journal, and membership to the Research Network.

Full Conference Registration - Regular

Conference registration includes attendance and participation at all conference sessions and presentations (i.e., plenary addresses and parallel sessions, lunch and coffee breaks on the days of the conference), attendance at the welcome reception and book launches (when included in conference events), citation and summary of work in the printed conference program and online post-conference program, and membership to the Research Network. Pre-Conference Boat Tour

Join engineers, an expert ecologist, and marine scientists to visit the MoSE Barrier System and the Lagoon by boat over a 3-hour tour. The tour will first head to the Arsenale North for a presentation on the MoSE Barrier System and the plan of work for environmental and coastal defense of Venice and its Lagoon, followed by a question and answer period (presented by the Communication and External Relations Department of Consorzio Venezia Nuova). From the Arsenale North the tour will then head to the inlet of Lido passing in front of the S. Andrea Fortress at the entrance of the Lagoon where the historic natural and man-made transformations of the Lagoon will be discussed. From there the boat will head towards the MoSE barrier worksite - a system of barriers which will eventually close off the Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea during storm surges. At the MoSE barriers, you will you will visit technical rooms that are still under construction and descend into a tunnel to a depth of about 15 m under the sea level. An expert ecologist will lead discussion on the scientific issues connected with the future management of the lagoon under a regulated tidal flow, as well as how the barriers will work and integrate with other defense actions.

Please note: participants may not take photographs of the galleries to be disseminated on the internet, social networks, or in publications. All participants must wear suitable footwear (flat, close-toed shoes) to take part in the technical portion of the tour. Without proper footwear, safety officers will not allow access to the MoSE Barrier worksites.

Pre-Conference Walking Tour

Join a fascinating 2-hour walking tour, led by a local expert scientist, that delves into the remarkable history of how Venice was built over tidal flats, the engineering that sustained it for centuries, and the critical threats Venice now faces and will in future due to climate change. The walk begins in the heart of the city, winding its way through unique alleyways and unknown quarters, ending up near the Rialto Bridge. You will learn about the Serenissima Republic’s urban planning policy and environmental management, bear witness to many examples of building degradation, and explore the structural methods for adaptation and mitigation of the damaging effects of sea-level rise and visit of the historic palace of the Venetian water authority.
