The Use of Elearning in Universitas Terbuka Mataram: A Study From the Perspective of Undergraduate Students

Abstract

Universitas Terbuka (UT) has been organizing online learning for a long time and this is what makes it different from other universities in organizing educational programs. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, all universities have conducted distance learning so that UT has many competitors. In addition, UT elearning is considered to have weaknesses, such as less interesting material and discussion, limited learning media, unattractive appearance and no significant changes. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on e-learning in order to increase innovation. The formulation of the problem in this study is how is the effectiveness of using e-learning on students of Universitas Terbuka Mataram? The purpose of this research is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of UT elearning and evaluating UT elearning. The theory used is the United Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) Model developed by Venkatesh at al. The method used is quantitative using descriptive analysis to determine the characteristics of the respondents and the desired appearance and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Square (PLS) approach to determine the effectiveness of e-learning. The results of this study describe the weaknesses, strengths, and improvements in e-learning as recommendations for UT management in order to improve online learning system services from the students’ point of view. This needs to be done because online learning is currently being done by all other universities. UT needs to maximize learning services to continue as an effective pioneer of open and distance universities in Indonesia.
