Empowering Communities Through Art: Evaluating the Role of Community Engagement in Fostering Artistic Growth and Social Change

Abstract

This academic study focuses on the effectiveness of community impact in the art and design field through the engagement in residencies, workshops, and forums provided by educational institutions such as Misk Art Institute a non-profit cultural organization that empowers local artists through an interconnected ecosystem of support, expertise, and education. The study will present an evaluation of the effectiveness of community art programs coordinated by Misk (Mohammed bin Salman Foundation for the Arts) The art and design field is changing rapidly through market trends, technology, and society. This study focuses on the emerging art market in the Middle East with a special focus on empowering female artists. It is important for female artists and designers to be connected to the field of art and design through community engagement, participating in different exhibitions, conferences, and publications. This research adopted an action research approach to explore one art residency program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia offered by Misk Art Institute This study aims to enhance early career development for female artists in the Middle East art market, to raise the profile and visibility of art residency programs, and to enlighten female artists about the art market opportunities in Saudi Arabia. This study addresses the following research questions: How informed are the artists about art residency programs? Which topics in the art residency program are related to early career development in the Saudi art market? How did the art residency experience empower female artists in Saudi Arabia?
