On Employment in Art Fields in Turkey

Abstract

There is an extremely dynamic economic process, labor market structure and art environment in which uncertainty and complexity gradually increase as a result of changes in the production structure, changes in technology, and developments in the arts. It is seen that the use of technology is becoming more valuable every day in the labor markets, especially as a result of the developments in information and communication technologies, in other words, digital transformation. This situation has also made a highly qualified and skilled workforce indispensable in the production of goods and services. At the same time, it has expanded work areas in the fields of art and design and increased the need for individuals with different qualifications and skills. The argument that employment in the fields of art and design paves the way for personal satisfaction and cultural capital accumulation can make the labor of cultural workers invisible in a “subtle” and “aesthetic” way. In this regard, employment in the fields of art and design is an issue that needs to be considered in more detail and in a more versatile way. In this context, the study discusses individuals who are educated in the field of fashion in Turkey, especially in terms of employment. For this purpose, some evaluations were made by considering the employment status and living conditions of individuals who graduated from fashion fields.
