The Impact of Transcultural Exchanges on Farangi-sāzi of Miniature Art during Safavid Period based on Wuthnow’s Theory

Abstract

This project intends to study the sociological factors influencing the new tendencies of Safavid period miniatures by emphasizing Wuthnow’s perspective. This study, with the approach of revealing the type of relations between the Safavid government (Shah Abbas era) and Western governments, using historical data by collecting library and archival documents, examines the methods and mechanisms through which new social conditions arose in the Safavid government and made the formation of a new type of miniatures possible. This movement, which is called Farangi-sāzi in Iran miniature history, aside from technic, affected aesthetic subject and this project studies these effects by analyzing archival documents and based on Wuthnow opinion. In the second section, the impact of foreign relations on miniatures left from this era and also which country had the highest degree of effects on them is considered.
