Abstract
Geoshred is an innovative application created for the iPad (and iPhone) which converts the iPad into an amazing music instrument. Created by Jordan Rudess (keyboardist of the band, Dream Theater) and Julius O. Smith III (of Stanford/CCRMA), Geoshred offers the player the possibility of making highly expressive music using iPad’s glass surface. In particular, the app allows the player to seamlessly slide from one note to another, a characteristic which is much used in the blues, rock and Indian classical music. This session introduces GeoShred by demonstrating some of its aspects followed by a short performance.
