The Bingo of Fear: A Tool for Women to Protest and Denounce View Digital Media

Workshop Presentation
Natalia Stengel,  Lucía Molatore

This workshop includes three dynamics for the participants. First, it will start with a game called The Bingo of Fear, an original feminist artistic tool. The Bingo is inspired by Mexican Bingo, which uses illustrations and concepts instead of numbers. After surveying Mexican women about what makes them experience fear, architect Celia de Hoyos and Doctor in Latin American Studies Natalia Stengel created a BINGO grid using the survey answers. Then, committed to feminism, artists and illustrators donated their creations to illustrate each concept. Later on, the School of Design at the Universidad Anáhuac Querétaro designed the grid, the cards and the instructions. Secondly, after playing the game, participants will be invited to answer a survey; the objective is to collect fears from all over the world to include them in different versions of the Bingo of Fear. The third and final moment will be a discussion between Dr Natalia Stengel and Dr Lucía Molatore about the role of feminist art in the Mexican feminist protest. Dr Stengel will explain how she developed the project, why she defines it as feminist artivism and the experience of developing the project as part of the art workshops organised by feminist artists (the collective Disidenta). Meanwhile, Dr Molatore will discuss design's role in these projects. By the end, we will open the discussion to appreciate the participants' experiences while playing; our main objective is to examine the Bingo as a hermeneutical protest tool that gives women clarity about manifestations of gender violence.
