Necro-olhar: Influence of Racist Social Structures

Abstract

This study combines cartography, genealogy, and conceptual artistic research with the aim of analysing under what conditions artistic productions are influenced by the racist social structures that founded modern society, which we define as necro-olhar. Starting from the study of two plays theater by Aimé Césarie, we propose a discussion in the context of a contemporary theatre. In this way we analyse the conditions under which freedom materialises, examining the sixty years of African independence, as well as the pitfalls imposed by the conjuncture of the post-independence period in África. Another relevant point in this research is the understanding of theories relating to race, the criticism surrounding them and the process of the formation of the new “Home Sacer”. Added to this context are the experiences of an artist-researcher who seeks a look as a body inserted into these spaces that are permeated by all these elements we have tried to raise so far. How do we relate to each other as a body crossed by various histories and belongings? Based on theoretical approaches and analysis made by Achille Mbembe, Ahmadou Kourouma, Joseph Ki-Zerbo, Micheal Foucault, George Agambe, Felwin Saar, Jarzy Grotowski, Constantin Stanislavski we outline our theoretical argument.
