The Power of Art Inspires Social Healing: Prophetic Activist Art - in action

Abstract

Power of Art Inspires Social Healing explores Prophetic Activist Art, the model developed by the International Human Rights Art Festival to transform the power of creativity into an engine for social change. This model uses specific outreach and presentation techniques to engage all members of society, from artists and activists to politicians, social leaders and businesses, to point toward positive social change, using the transformative power of art. The session will include a presentation of the work at the intersection of art, society, and politics to support creative voices from around the world in their struggle for justice and human rights. This introduction will be followed by an example of our work, featuring activist-dance from the USA and Ugandan poet-in-exile. Razack Buwaso Ibrahim. Any artist or human rights activist benefits from learning these specific and implementable skills. They can be mastered by one artist working with a specific idea, utilized by an arts organization that wants their work to become more focused and affecting, and it will provide a basis for NGO organizations around the world to appreciate and understand how partnering with artists will expand their reach, activate their public and can lead to the direct social change that they desire. The session concludes with additional questions and discussion.
