Abstract

This article explores the socioeconomic determinants of subjective well-being in Turkey based on the nationwide Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) survey held in 2015. Our empirical results point out relationships between subjective well-being and a wide range of factors such as age, gender, marital status, education, income, financial debt, health, religiosity, employment status, type of employment, social security, crime victimization, and perception of insecurity and revealed significant gender-based disparities. Findings from this survey contribute to a broader discussion on determinants of well-being and the role of gender differences, enabling us to draw cultural comparisons.
