Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of service learning applied to a personal health course comprised of liberal arts students enrolled at a public community college. General themes emerging from the service-learning cases studied here include curriculum contextualization, workforce competencies, social consciousness, and personal development. The feasibility of embedding service-learning activities within a personal health course, given budgetary and staff limitations, is also examined.
