Abstract

As technological advancements accelerate the convergence of physical and cyber realms, their boundaries are starting to become blurred. This paradigmatic shift into a multidimensional aspect of space is challenging spatial rules as we know them while also raising fundamental questions about our perception of reality. In this hypermobile era, humans not only traverse physical spaces but are also now able to navigate intricate cyber realms, empowering them to rethink, shape, and create their environment to their own will. Design being a key influencer in shaping human experiences assumes an important role both in how we perceive our world and in how we navigate and experience it. Its impact on our perception of the fundamental nature of reality is becoming increasingly evident. This article investigates this inherent connection between design and reality, more concretely within the context of our contemporary hypermobile era. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis of a design case study is conducted by employing Charles S. Peirce’s semiotic framework as a scientific analytical methodology. Through this analysis using a semiotic approach, a deeper understanding of the intrinsic impact of design in influencing the creation of our experienced reality can be revealed. The transformative potential of design in shaping our perception of and interaction with reality is highlighted through the obtained findings.
