Abstract

This paper discusses design education for local governments and the practical use of open platforms to link local communities. It examines the details of the open process in design education. Based on this inquiry, the authors present a proposal for an open Local Planning Hub website. The contents of this website could serve to raise the standard of public design and make a contribution to regional communities through the sharing of design education. This contribution to the improvement of public design relies on the design capabilities of local government official and students and the teaching abilities of university academics. The Local Planning Hub members could come to serve as a pool of impartial advisers in future decisions concerning public design.
