Abstract

Classical academic education in Poland nowadays is out of fashion and often regarded as useless, as far as job perspectives are concerned; difficult, because it includes two ancient languages; and boring, for the teachers seem not to have noticed that the times have changed and so have their students. Although the contemporary consciousness of Antiquity often lacks detailed or profound knowledge, surprisingly, over the past few decades, the world of ancient Greece and Rome has begun to gain its position in modern and post-modern culture. And the study of this impact should be welcomed by anyone interested in ancient and modern civilization because it is another manifestation of tradition’s ongoing vitality. Such study is not only legitimate, but also very important part of university scholarship. Unfortunately, the universal acceptance of this fact is still lagging. The purpose of my paper is to show that classical education, in the form of classical reception studies, not only proves its effectiveness, as far as building human intellect and manners are concerned, but it can be also an interesting and multifaceted subject to study and a way to preserve academic tradition of teaching the Classics for future generations.
