Abstract

This qualitative study explores the reasons for women going abroad to work, as well as the obstacles they face at home and in host countries on their quest for successful international assignments. The exploratory study focuses on women who have recently worked or are currently working away from their home country. The purpose of the research is to investigate reasons for the disparity of international assignments based on gender and to highlight the success and failures that women have experienced when working abroad. Additionally, the study seeks to disprove the myths surrounding the implied or stated reasons that more females are not working outside their home countries. The research includes the use of two questionnaires (snowball sample from social media networks) and secondary data. The research findings provide personal insights into the various challenges and achievements of women expatriates. Study conclusions contribute to a more gender equitable picture of international work and assignments.
