Abstract

Widespread growth of fantasy sports journalism continues in the United States. Members of the Fantasy Sports Writers of America, the trade association that promotes best practices and recognizes members' work, responded to a survey about workplace ethics. The survey of editors and reporters in 2010, which was replicated in 2012 and 2014, explored the use of written and unwritten codes of ethics, attribution practices, and the orientation of cognitive vs. entertainment function. Results of this longitudinal paper include a growing adoption of written codes of ethics in newsrooms, greater adherence to journalistic norms of attribution and a consistent orientation to information over entertainment.
