Abstract

Traditionally most fashion design studio courses are hands-on, with classroom demonstrations, projects, and application of demonstrated techniques. However, current students entering the classroom do not readily adapt to the traditional teaching model. According to a Pew Report on digital devices, 88 percent of Americans aged eighteen to thirty-four years own a smartphone, and 52 percent own a tablet. By using videos to create a database of pattern demonstrations for reference, students are able to access lessons on demand while completing assignments. The videos can be controlled by the student for repeats, pauses, or speed as needed. The purpose of this new learning format is to aid students in the understanding of pattern manipulation and drafting techniques through the video demonstrations.
