Abstract

In new propositions for sustainable buildings, besides improved architectural technique and modified construction methodology, the choice of sustainable materials to be used is a very important issue, perhaps the greatest. As sustainable buildings could be a trend in the near future, it is important to assess the propagation of radiofrequency (RF) signals in these constructions since this issue is shown to have a significant impact on the future directions and the extent of the success of sustainable buildings. In this article, the RF propagation of walls made of select sustainable materials is estimated by computational simulation. Wood, steel, concrete, and masonry brick are the sustainable materials selected in this study. The results provide valuable insights into the communication capabilities of sustainable buildings.
