Abstract

This paper will present findings from a literature review on the role of religion in the school experiences of Muslim students in Western and non-Islamic countries. The focus is on how religion intersects with their family, school, and the larger community context in addition to their relations with their peers, teachers, and other school staff. The review also examines the stressors and resources in their environment, how they negotiate religious and cultural values at home and a secular, Western culture at school, as well as the interplay of culture, ethnicity, race, gender, and religion in these adolescents’ school experiences.
