Abstract

Cities are in a constant process of transformation and adaptation in the face of social, economic and political changes. This paper attempts to identify how such changes affect the production of the built environments and especially the urban retail environments. In order to provide a basis for understanding the dynamism of the retail environments a typology based classification approach is proposed and adapted to the case of Ankara. Although this research could be considered as a first attempt to conceptualise an urban retail landscape, it needs to be supported by additional researches before being used as a retail planning and urban design tool.
