Abstract

Prosperity theology is a theology constructed based on wealth and prosperity. All of its teachings point to financial blessings. The principal of this theological teaching believes that God is rich and blesses His people with wealth. The followers must declare their faith and are encouraged to sow for the gain. For society, this theology is attractive because it promises an instant solution to the economic crisis. This study aims to conduct a conceptual test of the teachings of Prosperity Theology by carrying out a critical analysis of the teachings compared to understanding and the theological existential meaning as a reflection of faith. In particular, its implementation can be seen during a pandemic era. The research conducted with this literature study approach concludes that Prosperity Theology is irrelevant in this pandemic and that theology is more objective-exploitative rather than globally beneficial for humankind. This theology cannot be used as a guide for spiritual purposes because it teaches people to be greedy and materialistic and leads people into spiritual euphoria.
