Abstract

This study, with an aim to do something to improve China’s rhetorical education, attempts to illustrate the role of rhetoric as a discipline of study in enhancing the understanding of cultures, improving their communication skill, and fostering their critical mind for China’s undergraduate English major students. However, there still exist many problems in the China’s rhetorical education that need tackling to propel the development of rhetorical education. The main deterring factors for the implementing of proper rhetorical education lie in Chinese teacher’s misconception of rhetoric, neglect of rhetorical education, and misplacement of rhetoric in the curriculum. In addressing these problems, I will analyze the status quo of China’s rhetorical research and propose a few suggestions on how to improve the rhetorical education in China. With this attempt, I hope my article will help promote the advance of China’s rhetorical education.
