Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine nursing students’ coping behaviors toward English communicative skills during their clinical practice period. Together with types of coping behaviors, kinds of stress English student nurses encountered in their clinical practice were explored. A total of 309 nursing students who were conducting their clinical practicum for one year participated in the study by completing a set of surveys regarding coping behavior and stress toward English usage in the workplace. In addition, students’ responses towards a nursing English course and suggestions for enhancing nursing English skills were discussed. The findings could provide nursing schools with further understanding about students’ English stress during clinical practicum, coping behaviors, responses, and suggestions for enhancing their English skills in curriculum design and teaching objectives.
