Abstract

This article discusses Peter Sloterdijk’s (2013) philosophy of progress, highlighting its implication for managing organizational progress. Sloterdijk (2013) outlined that progress manifests itself as the improbable becomes the probable. It will be emphasized that ascetic, hard practice appears to be necessary in order to enable some individuals to achieve a level of mastery, where extraordinary creative individuals are able to transform the improbable into the probable. At the same time, it’s important to consider talent as a factor which increases the chance for individuals to demonstrate exceptional performance and creativity. In order to highlight both elements as important factors for managing organizational progress, this article will introduce a typology which combines both dimensions (practice and talent) and provides a heuristic framework for organizational analysis.
